Breeding conditions:
|
| We conducted intensive studies of Temminck's Stint. Hatching success was quite good (80-90% success). Many chicks died in the egg, for no apparent reason. Few avian predators and no mammalian predators were present. This field season was only the second at the study site. However, it was much colder and wetter than the 2003 season. From general observations, the abundance of flying insects (mosquitoes, blackflies, deerflies) seemed to be decreased by an order of magnitude from the 2003 season. There was evidence that Temmick's Stints, as single incubators, had difficulties acquiring enough food during periods off the nest. Nest abandonment was much higher than in 2003.
